Biotene Dry Mouth Products : Testimonials

I have been a dental hygienist for five years. I currently work in a state institution that houses' moderate to severely mentally retarded adults. The individuals who live here require constant care from staff. Many of our clients are either on medications that cause mouth (usually more than one), or their specific condition causes dry mouth. Along with the dry mouth symptoms, the clients exhibit moderate to severe gingivitis, bad mouth odor, difficulty eating, and swallowing, and numerous other symptoms related to xerostomia. I keep many of our clients on a constant routine of Biotene toothpaste and Oral Balance Gel. Biotene has proven to significantly decrease the amount of gingival bleeding in our clients, and the mouth odor. Oral balance applied before meals has improved the clients eating habits and eased their swallowing difficulties.

I would and have recommended Biotene and Oral balance to anyone including; elderly people (my diabetic grandmother) on medications, cancer patients ( my aunt who just completed chemotherapy and radiation for breast cancer), along with anyone else who deals with oral care of mentally handicapped individuals. These products have never failed to work for me.

My sister has been a severe case of Sjogren's Syndrome, plus a severe back condition. Carolyn has suffered more than most patients with Sjogren's over her mouth… and she is dependant on Oral Balance and Biotene Toothpaste, to maintain her mouth off torture. One Pulmonary Specialist told her when he looked at her mouth that he would scream all the time if his mouth was like her's. I have taken care of her a great deal of the time during approximately 8 1⁄2 months. Carolyn has suffered unbearable pain, even though she takes meticulous care of her mouth.

I have prepared special soups and foods for her to eat, because of her slits and open sores from yeast infection that plagued her mouth.
In one of her six hospitalization in 1996, a friend and myself were unable to reach her one night. I called and found out from the charge nurse that Carolyn was crouched in the restroom in severe pain with her mouth and could not deal with the phone etc. The nurse said that the doctor ordered morphine tablets to give her relief.

Carolyn was a Physical Therapist and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, but her life was shattered over Sjogren's Syndrome in 1991 and she had to go on Medical Retirement. The past two years have been hell on earth for her.
My sister's mouth has been progressively getting dryer over the Sjogren's and medicines that she needs. She doesn't know what she would do without it. She feels better when she uses the gel and this helps her sleep at night more than usual. We are thanking you both for this wonderful product.

I have been searching for 2 years for a toothpaste and mouthwash that won't irritate a very sensitive condition of Lichen Planus that is under my top lip.

A few weeks ago during a routine checkup, my dentist told me my mouth was extremely dry and I should drink more water and chew gum.
I went to the drugstore looking for any product that would help my dry mouth. I bought Biotene toothpaste and was thrilled to find a toothpaste and was thrilled to find a toothpaste that didn't burn my sensitive lip.

The next day I returned to the store and bought Biotene mouthwash and Biotene gum. Thank you for making my life less stressful with these wonderful products.

We first discovered Biotene toothpaste and mouthwash when my husband was first diagnosed with Acute Leukemia on November 1st. Our daughter, who is a nurse Practitioner, discovered it at a drugstore.

Knowing that a side effect of Leukemia is horrendous mouth sores, we decided to try it. From day one until this day, this is the only product that he has used.

He has developed a few infections, some life threatening, but no mouth sores. This has really astonished his doctors, especially the infectious disease doctors.

Keep up the good work, your product is FANTASTIC!!!!!! I personally have purchased the mouthwash and toothpaste for other cancer patients in the hospital who were not aware that product like this existed.

Until I tried your products, I had mouth ulcers my whole life. my doctor and dentist would tell me that they were caused by a virus or by something I had eaten. On average, I would develop one to two ulcers each week. They hurt so much that I had trouble eating, speaking, and brushing my teeth.
I heard about your product last year, and I will admit that I was skeptical that anything could actually prevent mouth ulcers. Well, this past February, I finally broke down and bought your toothpaste. I was at my wit's end and I was willing to try anything. To my surprise, Biotene was an absolute miracle product! I have been using it now for 10 months, and I do not get ulcers anymore. In fact, as soon as I started using it, my existing ulcers up almost immediately, and they haven't returned.

My Sjogren's Syndrome began many years ago. Today I have no saliva whatever. Without intervention I cannot talk.
I tried everything short of drugs or surgery. Artificial salivas were sticky, ineffective. Gum, sugarless candy, wax, vegetables and fruit played havoc either with my bridges, plaque formation, caries, or professional and social relationships. Finally, the best solution was a small plastic bottle of water that I carried in a specially made pouch around my neck. There was a small straw pocket through a hole I drilled in the cap. Surreptitiously I took small sips , and those who knew about it teased me about my "vodka fix". I even ushered at symphony and opera… all in good taste… and sipped on trains where no food or drink was allowed.
I go into detail to explain why I am deliriously happy with the product called OralBalance. My dentist tipped me off to it. Other saliva substitutes start out wet and quickly get sticky. OralBalance starts out as a gel and becomes wet in the mouth.
When I talk a lot, I reach into my pocket for the tube of gel and drop into my tongue. After a couple of hours, I put more gel on my tongue. One problem: I tend to drink too little water now…must be careful to get enough.

This is such a coincidence I knew I must enter your contest.
Just this last weekend a Patient called at home to say how much she appreciated my suggestion of the Biotene gum. This patient suffers from chronic dry mouth caused by her medications. In the office I always keep the spray to help patients with dry mouth get through their prophy with greater comfort. This patient asked if I had any suggestions for home use.
I offered her the information on the Biotene gum and toothpaste. She tried the gum and loved it. She is a faithful gym member and could hardly complete an exercise without grabbing for her water bottle. Now she chews a piece of Biotene while working out and is not distracted by her constant dry mouth. She called to say thank you. So, thank you to you Biotene!

I really can't give you one specific patient that the Biotene products have helped. But I can tell you I have numerous patients that have used these products and have really benefited from it. A lot of women find these products helpful during the different phases of menopause with the varying degrees of symptoms. The hormones or lack of them produce dry mouth in the women. There are also a lot of people that are looking for products that are alcohol free for the cariogenic factors and the Biotene products fit the need. Your patient sample packs are wonderful for my patients to discover which product will work for them. Thank you for all of help with my patients.

I have a female patient (age 49) who has suffered for years from a severe inflammation of the gingival tissues around her maxillary and mandibular anterior crowns. Her tissues would be swollen, very red and bled profusely. I enforced sulcular tooth brushing and flossing with each four month recall to no avail. Her tissue became so inflamed that she had episodes of spontaneous bleeding from them. She is a very outgoing and friendly middle school teacher and these episodes greatly embarrassed her. Our office sent her to a periodontist when we could not help her. He thought she might be allergic to her crowns, and short of removing them, he had no other offers of help for her. Needless to say, she was very frustrated, as was I.
One day she came in for her four-month recall and upon examination, I found her inflammation greatly reduced. I asked her what happened and she replied that she started brushing with Biotene toothpaste. She was very excited that the inflammation was down and the episodes of spontaneous bleeding had stopped. She has been brushing with Biotene for over a year now and her tissues continue to look better. I told her I recommended Biotene products for dry mouth, but never thought to recommend it for her condition. We are both so glad to have found a product to help her.

How Biotene saved the day
I have a patient who served in Africa for 2 years with UNICEF. When she returned to the United States, she had a rash on her tongue. She first went to her general doctor, who referred her to an ENT specialist. The ENT doctor had no idea what disease was on her tongue. He ordered $650 worth of medical tests, but no diagnosis came out from the tests. When she presented herself to me, she was very scared of what she might have contracted in Africa.
I suggested to her that she could use Biotene and a tongue scrapper. Within 48 hours, the lesions were gone from her tongue. I was the savior by making that suggestion… and for the cost of $10 Biotene saved the day. We never found out what the etiology of the lesions were, but they were never to return.
I am glad to share this story with colleagues and feel that Biotene demonstrated many uses for our patients.

I am writing to tell you how Biotene/ Oral balance has changed my mothers' life she has to take several medications which in turn drys her mouth. I attend the 2001 Focus on the Future ADHA meeting in Nashville, TN where I picked up some samples. I took them to my mother to try.
